Description: Bullis School seeks an Upper School Social Studies Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year to join a collaborative department committed to growing an academic program that celebrates various voices and perspectives. The Social Studies department offers a variety of on-level and AP Social Studies courses, including Human Geography, US History, US Government, World History, Comparative Government, and Psychology. Responsibilities include teaching five classes, contributing to department initiatives, and advising. Additional opportunities to supervise after-school activities are based on need and interest. This is a 10-month position reporting to the Chair of the Social Studies Department.The Bullis Social Studies program provides students with opportunities to develop an in-depth understanding of their communities and the world, past and present, to become responsible and empathetic global citizens. Each course focuses on developing skills and competencies – content, critical thinking, research, writing, and presentation skills – that students should both be prepared to engage in during the course and demonstrate significant growth in or mastery of at the end of the course. Students build foundational skills and competencies in 9th grade and continue to develop and expand their content and skills each successive year. Guided by the school’s new , this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator to participate in an academic review process with other curricular leaders across the school and ensure that diverse perspectives, histories, and experiences are incorporated into the curriculum.Duties & QualificationsEssential Functions

  • Teach five classes per academic year
  • Duties within the community, including student advising or other extracurricular activities
  • Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy.
  • Collaborate with social studies colleagues to further advance department goals and initiatives.
  • Participate and collaborate with teachers and other subject-area experts on grade-level and interdisciplinary team.s
  • Use technology to enhance students’ active, experiential, and hands-on learning.
  • Create learning environments that encourage risk-taking and deep learning for students with a range of learning abilities using a variety of methods and technology.
  • Use of reflection and feedback aimed at continued growth in the field of teaching and working with young people
  • Remain current in pedagogical practices and field-related trends
  • Attend Upper School divisional, social studies department, grade-level, and interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students’ progress, as needed and appropriate.
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress toward the academic standard and provide timely feedback to students
  • Use the student learning management system to provide timely feedback, grades, and assignments to students.

Education and ExperienceRequired:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in History or relevant field
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in middle or secondary education

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in History or relevant field
  • Proficiency with Windows or Apple OS, Microsoft Office, cloud computing (Google Docs, etc.), and other productivity and media software

Compensation and benefits are competitive, with an anticipated annual salary range of $65,000 to $95,000Benefits include:
