Description: Bullis School seeks an Upper School French Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community starting in January 2025. Candidates should understand the culture associated with the French language and be capable of teaching language to a range of learners in grades 9-10 with a specific focus on the development and implementation of an engaging curriculum. The load includes 5 classes from French II through French V. This is a temporary, full-time benefit-eligible position with the opportunity for permanent placement in the 2025-2026 academic year. The position reports to the Chair of the World Language Department.The Bullis Upper School World Languages program emphasizes acquisition, teaching toward proficiency, and assessing performance using Integrated Performance Assessments (IPAs). Guided by the theory and principles of Comprehensible Input (CI), teachers build lessons that engage and challenge students as they grow toward an ability to function in the target language. Teachers employ their creativity to form interdisciplinary, cultural, and personal connections by incorporating a variety of media, such as novellas and blogs, in the target language.Duties & QualificationsEssential Functions
- Teach five classes per academic year
- Duties within the community, including student advising
- Ability to teach several levels concurrently, from French I to French V levels
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy
- Collaborate with world language colleagues to further advance department goals and initiatives
- Participate and collaborate with teachers and other subject area experts on grade-level and interdisciplinary teams
- Use technology to enhance students’ active, experiential, and hands-on learning
- Create learning environments that encourage risk-taking and deep learning for students with a range of learning abilities using a variety of methods and technology
- Use of reflection and feedback aimed at continued growth in the field of teaching and working with young people
- Remain current in pedagogical practices and field-related trends
- Attend Upper School divisional, World Language department, grade-level, and interdisciplinary team meetings
- Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students’ progress, as needed and appropriate.
- Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standard and provide timely feedback to students
- Use the student learning management system to provide timely feedback, grades, and assignments to students

Education and ExperienceRequired:
- Bachelor’s Degree in French or related field
- Minimum of two years prior teaching experience
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in French or related field
- Direct experience with French culture is highly desirable
- Experience with Integrated Performance Assessments is highly desirable
- Proficiency with Windows or Apple OS, Microsoft Office, cloud computing (Google Docs, etc.), and other productivity and media software
Compensation and benefits are competitive, with an anticipated annual salary range of $65,000 to $95,000Benefits include:
