The ideal candidate will play a vital role in promoting the social, emotional, and academic development of students while incorporating the ASCA (American School Counselor Association) National Model standards into their daily practice.PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT: The successful candidate will be required to complete fingerprinting through an approved fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.POSITION SUMMARY: Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school counselors promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students.We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Counselor to work with middle & high school students to develop a school portfolio, which includes evidence of academic learning and career/postsecondary education exploration & planning. A top candidate must be willing to support CCMS/HS in its process of redesigning the school model with a focus on the elements below.CCSD Learner Profile: Students will actively develop the attributes of our district’s through experience both in and out of the classroomRelevance: Learning explores students’ interests and enables them to understand & tackle real problems in authentic contextsCustomization: The focus, pace and sequence of learning are tailored to each learnerConnection & Community: Learners are deeply known & respected by a variety of adults & peers, leading to close collaboration (staff/students)Active Self-Direction: Students are drivers of their learning and have a voice in decisions so that they grow in agency as they grapple directly with conceptsESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:Work collaboratively with students, administrators, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to address concerns and problem-solve when there are specific and systemic challenges to student success and learning.Assist students in developing life skills, connect with peers/adults and support school culture through participation in CCMS/HS’s Connect Class and broadly through the school day.Work cooperatively with Jefferson Center for Mental Health counselors and/or appropriate agencies providing student services and support.Facilitate Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Processes, including meeting facilitation, problem solving and follow through on meeting objectives and collaborate with the district MTSS Coordinator.Provide individual and group guidance, counseling, consultative services to students and parents/guardians as appropriate, making referrals to mental health support, social services, law enforcement as necessary.Provide support and guidance to teachers in academic/social student concerns.Collaborate with school staff and families to ensure smooth transitions for students from elementary to middle school, middle to high school and beyond high school.Develop comprehensive classroom lessons that engage students proactively in the drug prevention initiative, in career exploration or organization and study habits.Counselor will be responsible for development and overseeing 504 plans in addition to working with SPED staff to ensure IEP compliance.Assist with summer school planning for student remediation/acceleration.Guide students in developing class schedules to meet graduation requirements and support career development.Ability to create a master schedule and update individual student schedules using Infinite Campus.Support of students struggling with appropriate behavior (in collaboration with Administration).Mediate student conflict (student-student, student-staff)Establish conditions under which students exercise self-discipline, honesty, leadership and citizenship.Uses and organizes student data as part of school planning purposes.Assist in the scheduling of state and district assessments in collaboration with Administration and the District Assessment Coordinator.Other duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Current Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License/School Counselor or ability to obtain. Endorsement: School Counselor (Ages 0-21). Master’s Degree or higher in School Counseling as defined by accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling or Related Educational Programs, or ability to obtain.EXPERIENCE: One (1) to three (3) years school counseling experience preferred.KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:Exhibit effective time management skills.Understanding of the different components and uses of Infinite Campus for scheduling and recordkeepingRecognize problems and actively contribute to their resolutions.Adhere to the code of ethics of the counseling profession of the State of Colorado.Collaborate with others to fulfill responsibilities related to building and district programs.Acts as a liaison between the elementary schools and the Middle/High School.Acts as liaison between Middle/High School and outside agencies.Maintain a concern for students’ health and safety.Stay within the department budget.Work cooperatively with school administration and staff in a team atmosphere.Effectively communicate with students, staff and parents.EXPECTATIONS:Develop positive student/staff and parent rapport.Knowledge of developmental, emotional, and behavioral disabilitiesEmbrace a collaborative and collegial spiritFlexible, adaptive, and interactiveWork cooperatively with supervisors and co-workersUnderstand and follow complex oral and written instructionsEffectively communicates with the school and school district community, as well as the public at largeMeet attendance standards and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the jobMaintains a generally positive attitudeObserves all district policies and proceduresOccasional district travel may be requiredKnowledge and use of Infinite CampusTechnologically adeptCERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: First Aid and CPR Certificate or ability to obtain one (training provided).
