Our goal is to achieve and maintain equal employment opportunities, with policies in place to maintain a work environment free from discrimination.Visual Arts Teacher – Grades 1-5Reports to: Head of Visual ArtsCompensation commensurate upon experience: $65,000-$80,000/year (prorated for the length of the leave)Position OverviewDwight School, an innovative preschool-grade 12 coeducational school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is seeking a self-directed, experienced, and energetic Visual Arts Teacher for a maternity leave coverage beginning April 2025.Responsibilities

• Guide students in visual arts content and skill as conscientious members of the Dwight learning community
• Develop and foster student’s skill progression throughout the program
• Form relationships with students to foster personal academic growth within each pupil
• Display a commitment to diversity and creating a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging in approach to teaching and learning, as they are recognized and valued by Dwight

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Visual Art or other related field required; Masters’ Degree highly preferred.
• At least three (3) years of relevant, visual arts teaching experience in Middle or Lower School
• PYP or MYP Teaching experience, highly preferred
• Finds joy in teaching and believes in supporting the IB philosophy in both pedagogy and classroom experience required.
• Demonstrates competency in teaching students with varying skill levels
• Has excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
• Experience with thoughtful integration of technology into curricula
• Eagerness to contribute positively to the Dwight community
• Willingness to engage with and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
• Ability to bring joy, kindness, maturity, humor, hard work, and flexibility to the school environment
