Job Ttitle: Human Resources Technician

Description: This is an entry-level administrative position responsible for assisting with day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Division. This role will provide administrative support, handle employee inquiries, assist with processing benefits documentation, provide recruitment and onboarding support, maintain and update employee records and documentation, and ensure compliance with District policies and procedures and relevant legal regulations. This position will report to the human resources director.Benefits administration: Assist in the administration of all employee benefits offered at West Metro Fire Rescue including health care, vision and dental, supplemental benefits, flexible spending accounts, retirement options, death & disability, life insurance, open enrollment, and other company-sponsored plans.
Documentation and data entry: Assist in processing hiring and termination forms, maintaining accurate personnel and benefit records, and ensure timely data updates.
Recruitment and onboarding support: Assist with hiring and testing process for all positions, provide support with hiring documentation, assist with candidate selection and background processes.
Employee communication and customer service: Assist in providing guidance and support for employee questions and concerns regarding benefit plans. Assist in revision, preparation, and dissemination of a variety of administrative documents such as agendas, board packets, minutes, memorandum, and procedures.
Reporting: Prepare and maintain regular reports on metrics, employee participation, salary, benefits, personnel, and other related data. Assist with creating, updating, and maintaining all forms used by human resources. Assist with accreditation, special projects, audits, discrimination testing, census reports, and other data requests.
Problem resolution and process improvement: Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to benefits administration. Seek and find ways to improve human resource and benefit administration.
Vendor liaison support: Coordinate with external benefits providers and maintain strong relationships to address any service-related issues.
Compliance: Ensure that benefits practices are compliant with federal, state, local and District regulations. Research and assists in the revision, preparation, and dissemination of human resource policies and procedures.
Collaboration: Work closely with payroll and other District Divisions to ensure correct benefit deductions and contributions and address any other benefit administration related topics.
Miscellaneous duties: Maintaining archive and/or purge archived personnel and confidential files. Answer overflow telephone calls, cover administrative and receptionist duties when required, and participate in special projects. Review, research, and summarize a variety of fiscal, statistical, and administrative information. Coordinate and participate in the preparation of reports, memoranda, and correspon dence of a legal, technical, or confidential nature.
JOB REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
ENTRY LEVEL

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must type 50 words per minute or >
  • Must have ability to work under time constraints
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong customer service, telephone, and communication skills
  • Must be proficient in math and English
  • Must have great customer service internally and externally
  • Ability to multitask, while maintaining complex schedules and managing administrative support
  • Must be proficient with utilization of smart devices

MASTERY LEVEL

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in human resources, business, finance, or equivalent
  • Required certification and/or proficiency outlined in job description
  • 5 years’ experience in relevant professional role
  • 2 years’ experience with West Metro in role
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate within all facets of the job
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Provides excellent customer service to all employees and citizens

OTHER NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license (or be eligible to obtain by time of employment) and exhibit a safe driving record. Failure to maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record is subject to Administrative Procedure Operation and Use of District Vehicles. Background investigation, polygraph, physical examination, and substance screening required prior to employment.
This is primarily sedentary office work. Must demonstrate the ability to meet the physical demands of the job including the ability to retrieve information from various locations in the office when needed. May include exposure to periods of high activity and high stress under demanding conditions. The position requires a great deal of communication with district employees, the public, and outside agencies.
