Description: Position Summary: For the Cleveland-based grants office of the Sisters of Charity Health System (SCHS), the Director of Foundation Relations and Government Grants develops, implements and lead a comprehensive grant seeking program on behalf of the ministries of the Sisters of Charity Health System.Reports To: Senior Vice President Fund DevelopmentEssential Duties:

  • Serve as a member of Sisters of Charity Health System Fund Development leadership team by overseeing grant activities for all private/corporate foundation, as well as county, state and federal government funding opportunities.
  • These tasks include: prospect research, deadline tracking, grant proposal and report submissions, budget development, grant administration and all related projects for the centralized health system grant office.
  • Specific responsibilities for securing grant awards in support of the Cleveland-based ministries of the Sisters of Charity including programs on our E. 22nd Street campus that are serving the Central Neighborhood, as well as the other ministries (e.g., Joseph & Mary’s Home, Regina Health Center, and Light of Hearts Villa).
  • Collaborate and serve as key liaison for grants with SCHS leadership, including ministry leaders and other fund development staff throughout the proposal development process, especially related to program design and outcomes.
  • Manages post-award evaluation and reporting, including ongoing communication with program staff related to financial compliance, limitations, activities, and outcomes.
  • Manages relationships with external funders including program officers, corporate representatives, and government officials. Convenes and leads all related site visits.
  • Prepares and submits related outcome narrative and financial grant reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintains all related grant information in Raiser’s Edge and Raiser’s Edge NXT.
  • Participates in weekly senior-level fund development leadership meetings with Senior Vice President to discuss grant funding planning, challenges, and visioning.

Preferred Skills and Characteristics

  • Knowledge of and experience in all facets of grants and foundation relations, including research, proposal development, budget development, familiarity with online applications, and administration and reporting of grants.
  • Excellent writing and strong verbal communication skills, with ability to transform ideas into text.
  • Detail oriented, with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and team members across the Health System.
  • Solid technical skills, with strong working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Office and various software programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to discussion around or information contained in funding proposals.

Qualifications:The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate understanding and commitment to upholding the Catholic identity and values of Catholic health care, and a commitment to the Mission of the Sisters of Charity Health System.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years’ experience writing proposals and managing grants in the nonprofit sector.
  • Proven track record and demonstrated expertise in grant writing and program development. Experience in social/human services fields preferred, but not required.
