Description: At STERIS, we help our Customers create a healthier and safer world by providing innovative healthcare and life science product and service solutions around the globe.The Associate Scientist will work in the Product Development team focused on the Sterility Assurance Consumables Portfolio. They will work with several strains of BSL1 organisms and employ microbiology methodologies including but not limited to aseptic technique, plate counting, and serial dilutions. The position will require accurately maintaining, recording, and reporting test data. Must possess the ability to perform and accurately document tasks according to established Work Instructions and written protocols in a timely manner. Must be able to work both independently and within a team on multiple studies at different stages of the process.What You’ll do as an Associate Scientist:

  • Demonstrates good understanding of STERIS scientific technologies and sterilization science
  • Carries out test plans/experiments for assigned projects under the direction of a supervisor, to include the recording, analysis, and scientific evaluation of experimental data
  • Performs analyses and resolves issues using good problem-solving techniques
  • Demonstrates excellent laboratory technique
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment
  • Works under supervision with direct instructions
  • Carries out routine and semi-routine tasks independently
  • Understands and complies with accepted laboratory and safety procedures
  • Demonstrates excellent laboratory technique Assists in writing test plans and reports

The Experience and Abilities Needed:

  • Bachelor degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry
  • Minimum 1 year in related laboratory experience
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment
  • Possess basic laboratory skills related to job field
  • Understanding of aseptic techniques
  • Skilled in the use of basic microbiology and/or chemistry laboratory equipment
  • Ability to read and follow protocols/SOP’s/methods
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

The Skills Needed:

  • Maintains a level of technical knowledge consistent with current scientific literature and best practices
  • Assure efficient laboratory operation through acquisition and inventory control of consumables lab supplies and chemicals
  • Complies with established protocols and within regulatory and laboratory requirements
  • Understands and complies with accepted laboratory and safety procedures
  • Independently operate various standard instruments and perform basic maintenance according to established methods
  • Demonstrates good writing skills for the following:
  • SOPs and their revisions
  • Test plans/protocols
  • Laboratory reports
  • OOS reports
  • Maintains a laboratory notebook and documents laboratory data accurately and timely
  • Demonstrates oral communication skills:
  • Reporting of laboratory results to supervisor are accurate
  • Give presentations to group
  • Perform all work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner
