Description: Definition: The teacher will implement into daily student instruction appropriate educational curriculum based on the Arizona Career and College Readiness Standards (AZCCRS) and BEST Framework. Assumes professional responsibility for providing learning experiences in the visual arts and supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards (AZCCRS), using approved curricula, materials, and directives of the school. Achieving academic excellence requires that the Art Teacher work collaboratively with other members of the school staff and with parents. This person will be expected to adhere to BEST Professional Domains and Standards for Licensed Employees and report directly to the school site administrator.Reports To: Principal and assigned supervisorEssential Functions:

Administer appropriate district curriculum which is aligned with the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards (AZCCRS).
Use effective presentation skills when employing direct instruction, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, articulate and audible speech.
Create and maintain a positive and orderly learning condition in the art environment.
Develop and implement the Components of an Effective Lesson for instruction.
Incorporate each of the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards (AZCCRS) into the art instruction when appropriate to reinforce the schools’ responsibility to ensure that all students meet and exceed all of the Standards.
Coordinate instruction with other teachers of the school.
Communicate regularly and assist classroom teachers with integrating the visual arts into the instructional program.
Review periodically the art curriculum for the district and recommend modifications when appropriate so that the curriculum serves as a framework for planning sequential instruction to address the AZCCRS and the developmental needs of the students.
Provide and supervise opportunities for students to demonstrate individually and in groups the skills and talents developed in the art program, bringing pride of accomplishment to students and to the school. These opportunities may occasionally be outside of the normal work day for teachers, including evenings and weekends.
Provide instruction in the proper use of artistic materials and equipment, ensuring safe use.
Prepare orders for art supplies and equipment within the approved budget, following established purchasing procedures.
Maintain an inventory and store in an approved fashion all art supplies.
Maintain safe working conditions on all art equipment.
Serve as a role model for students by cultivating personal artistic talents and creating artistic work.
Engage the learners in differentiated learning experience for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the classroom, when appropriated, managing multiple instructional activities simultaneously.
Provide and effectively organize a variety of material, equipment, media, and community resources to support the instructional program, using school approved procedures.
Organize and supervise approved field trips to enhance classroom learning.
Monitor the pacing of instruction and budget class time efficiently by providing clear directions, outlining expectations, and effectively bringing closure to instructional experiences.
Submit lesson plans in the approved format to the Principal or designated supervisor as required and requested.
Effective presentation skills when employing direct instruction, including appropriate vocabulary.
Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom that encourages student responsibility, using motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies and effective classroom management techniques.
Must be able to perform other job-related duties as assigned by the PrincipalKnowledge, Skills and other Characteristics:
Knowledge of District policies and procedures
Knowledge of the learning process towards achievement of curriculum goals.
Must be able to provide instruction in an art setting with appropriate skills for the necessary implementation of the SUSD methodologies.
Ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, peers, administration and community members.
Ability to provide instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives in order to meet the needs of all students.
Skill in following oral and written instructions for all lessons, units and projects.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other faculty and staff.Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, repetitive motion, vision to monitor and lifting up to 15 pounds.Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
A valid Arizona Reciprocal, Provisional or Standard Secondary 6-12 teaching certificate with approved area or Art endorsement.
A valid IVP Clearance Card
Any equivalent combination of training, education or experience that meets the minimum qualifications and State certification requirements will be accepted.Salary Grade: Refer to Certified Salary Schedule FTE: 1.0 Days: 211 Start Date: 2025/2026 School Year
