Description: Job Description:Position SummaryEducation for Change is looking for dynamic and visionary teachers who will engage students, parents, and other members of our learning community to ensure high student achievement. The teacher provides instructional leadership to students and actively participates in and contributes to a collaborative, results-oriented professional learning community. (S)he engages community partners and families in serving the whole child and ensuring ALL children achieve at high levels prepared to succeed in any setting. EFCPS is a charter management organization that manages a diverse portfolio of TK-8 schools, growing to a portfolio of TK-12 schools in the Fruitvale and Elmhurst neighborhoods of Oakland, currently serving 3,000 children. - Work with students in grades TK-5 to help them to develop an understanding and appreciation for art history, artists, and artistic techniques while engaging in the production in their own works
- Develop and implement effective, inspiring art education program aligned with student needs, California State standards, and EFC and school instructions, goals, and objectives
- Plan and direct art contests and art exhibits
- Provide a classroom climate and learning experiences that further our students’ social, emotional, physical, and academic development
- Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and supportive classroom and school environment that values learning and achievement
- Demonstrate respect and understanding of students and families from diverse backgrounds
- Assess students regularly
- Use assessment results and student needs to inform and differentiate instruction
- Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs; when necessary, refer to appropriate resources, such as health and psychological services
- Involve students’ families as partners
- Collaborate with colleagues and work as a team to achieve shared goals
- Communicate regularly with students and families about student learning
- Actively participate in professional development opportunities
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance
- Support the mission, vision, and core values of Education for Change
- Actively participate in key student events
- Attend a mandatory new hire training
Required Qualifications:Education and/or Experience
- Content expertise in Art Education instruction to elementary school-aged students
- At least two years of teaching experience
- Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, Single Subject in the subject area, or ability to attain one based on out-of-state certification. Don’t have a credential? We can help! Please email talent@efcps.net
- CLAD, BCLAD, or English Language Learner Authorization
- Must possess a growth mindset and be able to use feedback to refine practice
- Experience with Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports, a plus
Other Qualifications
- Able to build immediate and caring rapport with children of all ages and from diverse backgrounds; some understanding of child growth and development
- Passion for teaching and working with students from urban communities, with specific knowledge and understanding of the needs of students from different experiences, languages and backgrounds
- Excellent organization, time management and follow up skills; high sense of commitment; ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively
- Must possess a growth mindset and be able to use feedback to refine practice
- Able to work in a creative and demanding learning environment, including the ability to problem solve and manage ambiguity and adversity
- Commitment to the vision, mission and guiding principles of the school
- Sense of humor, high ethical professional standards, equity perspective
- Computer literate and comfortable with acquiring new technology skills
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from four-year college or university
- Have a strong foundation in art theory and history (art specific)
- Spanish language proficiency
