Description: Description of WorkSummary or Brief Description of Work:*** Internal Posting for current Wildlife Law Enforcement Employees Only. ***The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Mission Statement is to conserve North Carolina’s wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters, anglers, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation. The Commission is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of N.C. fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating laws. The NCWRC employs 700 full-time staff across the state, including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians, wildlife law enforcement officers, wildlife educators, communication specialists, customer service, information technology, and administrative professionals.The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Law Enforcement Division employs over 200 Wildlife Officers who patrol fields, forests, and inland waters at all hours, in all 100 North Carolina counties. These officers ensure public compliance with fishing, wildlife and boating laws and regulations and enforce the conservation of wildlife resources and provide public safety through both proactive law enforcement and the instruction of quality education.The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is seeking applicants for a Wildlife Law Enforcement Supervisor I (Sergeant – District 9 Area 4) for our Law Enforcement Division. The Wildlife Law Enforcement Supervisor I (Sergeant – District 9 Area 4) is responsible for all wildlife enforcement operations in two or more counties within a given district. The Sergeant supervises Wildlife Law Enforcement Officers who enforce game hunting, fish, and boating laws and regulations and federal laws. Supervision includes ensuring the quality and quantity of work, setting performance goals, and evaluating performance, scheduling resources, and developing employees. This position also monitors and evaluates the progress of wildlife enforcement trainees. The Sergeant ensures the work area has adequate law enforcement personnel to provide services needed, including air, land, and water enforcement activities.Additionally, the Sergeant researches and interprets laws and regulations concerning game, fish and boating laws and may evaluate and suggest improvements to the application of laws and regulations. Supervisors implement Wildlife Resources Agency and Division policies and procedures affecting administrative, law enforcement and personnel management, and may assist with complex investigations.A rotating shift schedule is associated with this position which involves working Monday to Sunday, with two days off per week (minimum of 160 work hours per 28-day period.) This position is subject to callback 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Night work and overnight travel may be required on occasion. The incumbent may be required to work some weekends and holidays. The assigned duty station for this position is NC Wildlife Resources Commission District 9 (Jackson, Swain, Graham).Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesResumes will not be accepted in lieu of completing the application.   • Thorough knowledge of the Wildlife Resources Commission Employee Handbook and the Division of Enforcement Policy Manual.
  • Thorough knowledge of game, fish, and boat law found the NC General Statutes, NC Administrative Code, and the US Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of the NC Hunter Education program and the NC Boating Education program.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information and expectations, while managing stressful situations with composure, and actively listening to understand and resolve issues.
  • Ability to think strategically, balancing immediate patrol area needs with long term goals
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple priorities and goals.

Special Qualifications/Requirements:
