08/07/2025Summary:The role of the Curriculum and Instruction Specialist (C&I Specialist) is to build teacher capacity and to enhance teacher understanding and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment best practices in the target content-area that are aligned to RLAS’ teaching and learning philosophy. C&I Specialists support teachers by assisting with curriculum, instruction, and assessment; data evaluation and analysis; identification of resources; investigation of best practices and action research for the content-area; provide ongoing coaching and feedback to teachers; and the design and implementation of professional development.Salary Range:

Bargaining unit- EARL ExemptRequired Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, master’s degree preferred
- 5 years of professional teaching experience in the elementary grade band.
- Illinois Professional Educator’s Licensure with appropriate grade band certification.
Special Requirements:
- Successfully demonstrated superior content and standard knowledge for elementary specials subject areas (currently PE, art, music, Project Lead the Way). Professional development opportunities will be provided for areas where additional expertise is needed.
- Has consistently demonstrated proficient or higher on 3 consecutive performance evaluations.
- Attend both initial and on-going trainings specific to successful implementation of curriculum programs and resources as necessary, including but not limited to PLTW training. This may occur during school breaks, while following all district travel and reimbursement protocols. This training will be paid per the collective bargaining agreement.
- Due to the extensive training involved in this position, voluntarily leaving this position in 5 years or less will require repayment of the cost of training as outlined below:
- Year 1- 90% of the cost of training will be repaid.
- Year 2- 70% of the cost of training will be repaid.
- Year 3- 50% of the cost of training will be repaid.
- Year 4- 30% of the cost of training will be repaid
- Year 5- 10% of the cost of training will be repaid.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of the curriculum development and program evaluation.
- Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum and subject matter including relevant content-area standards for each of the elementary specials courses.
- Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum development and implementation as well as standards-based learning and assessment.
- Demonstrates the ability to analyze and create an effective response to student assessment data.
- Manages time and schedule to maximize teacher, learning, and technical support.
- Effectively leverages technology in support of resource management.
- Communicates effectively with all members of the school district and community including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
- Ability to effectively develop and deliver presentations for a variety of purposes.
- Ability to effectively communicate progress and needs of the district instructional program in the specials content areas.
- Knowledge of relevant student assessments including nationally normed, state accountability, and locally developed assessments in specials content areas.
- Knowledge of district resources.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, development, and implementation of a comprehensive kindergarten through 5th grade Specials’ curricula or programs, including Art, Music, Project Lead the Way/STEM, and Health and Wellness, which align with state standards and mandates, Common Core standards, and district goals.
- Collaborate with curricular and programmatic teams to ensure coherence and continuity across all grade levels.
- Support the evaluation and revision of curriculum, programs and related documents, including standards documents, curriculum guides, learning progressions, course outlines, and instructional materials.
- Use student assessment data to analyze program and curriculum effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements.
- Provide professional development and support to teachers in selecting and creating instructional materials that align with a specific content area or instructional program.
- Participate in and/or provide curricular support to collaborative teams within and across buildings.
- Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, ect. to support classroom instruction and planning.
- Analyze and interpret student achievement data to determine instructional strengths, weaknesses, and trends.
- Assist in the creation and operationalization of a long-term strategic plan to increase student achievement, especially for traditionally underserved populations.
- Compile and present regular reports on student performance and other related data for various purposes and audiences.
- Support teachers and administrations in using aggregate data to improve student outcomes.
- Support the development and maintenance of a curriculum feedback system for elementary specials content areas.
- Assist in the selection and purchase of supplemental programs, equipment, and supplies including technology and online learning programs.
- Collaborate with district and building administrators and coaches to develop and support instructional programs.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
- Support the gathering and maintenance of state and federally required compliance data.
- Assist with the preparation and administration of the budget and inventory for supplies, equipment, and facilities in Teaching and Learning.
