Description: Research Scientists I are individuals holding a PhD or equivalent terminal degree who play a major role in enabling the Surgical Oncology & Endocrinology research program through collaborative and collegial interactions with faculty, fellows, graduate students, staff and other collaborators. The Research Scientist I will be responsible for leading and facilitating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) research projects for the Division. This role will oversee research projects, publications, and ensure compliance with federal and institutional requirements.The primary responsibility of the Research Scientist I will be to execute AI- and ML-driven studies, write manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, and collaborate with clinical teams to integrate AI/ML solutions in the Division. The position may also involve cross-functional collaboration with data scientists, clinicians, and bioinformatics to enhance projects and to facilitate execution of research goals.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth understanding of AI/ML technologies and hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and AI/ML tools (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Ability to design, train, and optimize ML models for clinical and research applications.
  • Ability to apply advanced AI/ML methodologies to solve complex clinical problems and interpret large datasets.
  • Strong skills in scientific manuscript preparation and familiarity with the peer-reviewed publication process.
  • Ability to manage multiple AI/ML research projects simultaneously and ensure timely completion of goals.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or a related field with a focus on AI and ML applications in healthcare.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in AI/ML research within a medical or clinical setting
  • Familiarity with regulatory aspects of clinical trials and IRB processes.
  • Knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) and its applications in healthcare.
