The Law School Recruitment Coordinator reports to the Manager of Law School Recruitment, in collaboration with the national Law School Recruitment team, to support the summer associate program, on-campus recruitment, and entry-level recruitment across the firm’s US offices.ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Law School & Entry Level Recruitment

  • Act as liaison for the Law School Recruitment team to law school Career Services offices, prospective candidates, and A&O Shearman lawyers
  • Work with US lawyers, in collaboration with the wider Law School Recruitment team, to coordinate law student outreach and sponsorships throughout the year at target law schools
  • Prepare interview packets, marketing materials, and giveaways for hospitality suites and other on-campus events
  • Travel, as needed, to law schools for on-campus interviews and other recruiting events (e.g., receptions, panel presentations)
  • Schedule screening interviews, callback interviews, and “second-look” visits for law students
  • Meet, greet, and educate candidates about the firm
  • Plan and attend offer dinners and other follow-up events for both 1L and 2L hiring initiatives
  • Coordinate candidate offer follow-up and attorney outreach process
  • Maintain legal recruiting database (viRecruit), assist with data entry, and audit reports to ensure accuracy of information
  • Act as point of contact for attorneys and summer associates in local office
  • Participate in other departmental responsibilities, and local and firm-wide projects, as is appropriate (e.g., recruiting brochure and website updates, social media initiatives, survey and profile submissions, campus relations, diversity & inclusion initiatives, local office events, etc.)
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Summer Program

  • Plan and execute the US track Summer Program in collaboration with the wider Law School Recruitment team
  • Collaborate with the Professional Development team to develop and execute summer associate training programs
  • Plan and execute summer associate social and networking events
  • Liaise with all relevant departments for summer associate onboarding, including office services, technology and training, payroll, work authorization/visa acquisition (if applicable), etc.
  • Coordinate the summer associate evaluation process, including mid-summer and end-summer reviews
  • Assist with the summer associate entry-level offer process
  • Plan and execute the firm’s annual Winter Weekend orientation program for incoming summer associates.

KEY REQUIREMENTSKnowledge, Skills & Attributes

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems preferred (especially viRecruit)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Exhibits high level of maturity and excellent judgment
  • High energy, works well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to keep calm and focused despite heavy workload or high stress situations
  • Exhibits strong business acumen
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and create a pleasant and professional rapport with attorneys, business services colleagues, recruits and other external parties
  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters and respond effectively to such situations.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least 2 years of law firm/professional services experience required.

Physical Activity/Other Miscellaneous

  • Flexibility to work extended hours as needed, especially during the summer program and recruiting season (May through September) and ability to travel to certain recruiting events as required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs.
