Description: This position will work primarily to bring knowledge of artistic and creative concepts to students in their learning environment. It will help students understand the artistic concepts in various types of visual communication, possibly including, but not limited to drawing, painting, ceramics and/or design.
Responsibilities

- Actively contributes to a professional community that focuses on instruction and high student achievement
- Utilizes effective instructional practices responding to the needs of each student in the learning community
- Curriculum/Learning Model
- Utilizes data to implement learning model and modify instructional practices and daily lesson plans as needed
- Coordinates curriculum within the team and school
- Integrates all aspects of the learning model into classroom procedures, instruction
- School Culture
- Ensures a safe, supportive, and productive environment for students
- Sets and maintains high academic expectations for students
- Implements effective student discipline, conflict resolution, and helpful student support services
- Promotes teamwork within the learning community
- Community/Parental Outreach
- Actively engages parents in the learning process and school functions
- Communicates on a regular basis with families through newsletters, announcements, and updates
- Resolves parent issues respectfully and effectively
- Compliance
- Drafts, updates, and submits lesson plans and data analysis action plans on a consistent basis
- Takes accurate attendance in a timely manner
- Maintains professional credentials and submits updates to the Human Resources Department prior to expiration dates
- Building Management
- Implements classroom procedures that promote a safe, clean, orderly, and productive classroom environment

- Experience working in a socio-economic, racial and culturally diverse classroom setting.
- Ability to effectively manage and instruct both small and large groups of students
- Ability to establish positive and long-lasting relationships with students, peers, parents, and community
- Desire to connect students to school and instill excitement about learning
- Ability to help students discover their passions
- Ability and willingness to seek out and provide opportunities for experiential art education
- Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a can-do attitude
- Personal investment in creating a classroom in which social emotional learning is the foundation of the culture
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate to a diverse audience
- Experience in building positive relationships with colleagues, students, and parents
- Meticulous organization and use of time
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Qualifications
- Must have and maintain valid Michigan teaching certificate or a bachelor’s degree in the content area
- Art Education Certification (LX) is desired, but not required.
- Knowledge and experience with digital art media is desired, but not required.
