Description: The School of Art and Design at West Virginia University is seeking applications for the position of Teaching Assistant Professor of Art Therapy and program coordinator. WVU offers a BA in Art Therapy, minor in Therapeutic Art, and a Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Art. The position is a full time, 9-month appointment, non-tenure track, and can achieve promotion. Starting date is August 15 and classes begin August 20, 2025.Responsibilities:
Teaching (80%)

• Teach all levels of Art Therapy courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels as needed. Teaching assignment is normally four (3-credit hour) courses per semester.

Service (20%)

• Coordinate Art Therapy program with a focus on the scheduling of classes, staffing, course development, and curriculum updates.
• Participate in School, College, and University committee assignments as needed. Engage in student recruitment and retention initiatives.

• Must have a Master’s-level degree in Art Therapy or a closely related field
• Must be a Registered Art Therapist-Board Certified (ATR-BC)
• Minimum two years teaching experience at the college level
• Written and oral communication skills consistent with and complementary to the expectations of a flagship research university.
• All required qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Art Therapy or related discipline
• Experience in attracting and retaining students in the discipline.
