Description: Close Date: 01/14/2025 at 9:00PM(PST)Position: Coordinator I- Arts and MuseumsDepartment: PARCS, Arts, Recreation, and Community ServicesAnnual Salary:$77,723.16-$99,196.56FLSA: ExemptJob Summary:The Arts & Museums Division supports the priorities and objectives of the Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Community Services (PARCS) Department by strengthening awareness, enhancing accessibility, and igniting an appreciation of art, history, and culture within the City of Lancaster.Under the direction of the Supervisor – Arts and Museums, the Coordinator (I), will lead various museum teams covering a range of duties, including collections management, grant writing and development, membership and benefit programs, contract management, education program development and implementation, and museum registration.This position will also work closely with community partners and stakeholders to implement new programming with special attention to diversity, access, and inclusion initiatives. The Coordinator I – Museums is expected to execute tasks with minimal direction and oversight, relying on creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail. This role is responsible for handling routine work problems and the satisfactory achievement of specified objectives.The position will coordinate responsibilities across all museum locations, including the Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH), MOAH: CEDAR, Elyze Clifford Interpretive Center, the Western Hotel Museum, and other relevant operations within the PARCS Department. The Coordinator (I), may also be assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies, arts and culture organizations, and the general public, as well as provide complex staff assistance to management.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Responsible for planning, directing, organizing, and leading programs for the Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Community Services Department’s Museums Division. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and implement arts and culture-based community engagement programs with special attention to diversity, access, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Recommend staffing levels, select, train, supervise, and establish performance requirements for permanent, temporary, and part-time staff.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and work with staff to ensure a high-performance, customer service-oriented work environment that supports achieving departmental and museum mission, objectives, and service standards.
  • Apply best practices and quality assurance processes to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Enforce the maintenance of safe working conditions and ensure safe work practices are followed by staff.
  • Provide leadership to ensure a fair and open work environment in accordance with the City’s commitment to equal employment opportunity, diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.
  • Research and prepare grant applications and final reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of the budget and purchasing activities and monitor expenditures.
  • Administer loan agreements, transfers of title, and deeds of gift.
  • Develop schedules for exhibitions, collections, transportation, and appropriate activity supervision.
  • Maintain fundraising reports, grant writing schedules, and membership records.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with City employees, contract workers, community groups, agencies, school officials, the media, and the public.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, non-profit management, arts, anthropology, archeology, recreation, or a related field, desired.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
