See our full statement on diversity here .OVERVIEW OF POSITIONOur elementary school (Match Community Day) has an opening for a Pre-K Arts and Athletics Teacher to fill in as a long-term substitute on or around March 3rd, 2025 for approximately 12 weeks. The position is based at our elementary school campus on 100 Poydras St. in Hyde Park.We are only able to consider applicants who have current US work authorization.The salary range for teachers new to Match is $61,812-98,899 and is determined by the candidates prior years of full-time teaching experience.PM20ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Pre-K Arts and Athletics Teacher teaches five classes per day (30 minutes each). Key responsibilities include:Movement and Arts Integration:

  • Teach a combination of visual arts and performing arts with a focus on movement.
  • Incorporate various art mediums (visual arts, dance, music) to promote creativity and physical movement.
  • Ensure each class includes a movement warm-up, an engaging activity, and a class closure.

PE Fridays:

  • Plan and lead physical education lessons every Friday to develop motor skills, coordination, and teamwork.
  • Create fun, age-appropriate physical activities that complement the movement focus of the program.

Unit Planning:

  • Plan thematic units spanning four weeks, integrating arts, movement, and cultural learning.Examples:
  • Latinx Heritage Unit: Explore cultural traditions through activities like creating piatas, learning about Frida Kahlo, and engaging in Latin dance forms (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata).
  • Black History Month: Plan and coordinate a performance highlighting significant figures and community pillars, culminating in a short dance or song for assembly.
  • Around the World: Explore different countries and cultures through art, dance, and movement, fostering global awareness and respect for diversity.

End-of-Year Events:

  • Organize and lead the Pre-K potluck planning and preparation.
  • Plan a graduation performance, including an art project and performance, to celebrate student achievements.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with the Pre-K team for planning and support, particularly for graduation activities.
  • Work with fellow teachers to ensure consistency across subjects and activities.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in weekly Professional Development sessions every Wednesday to enhance teaching strategies and maintain current best practices in arts education.
  • Stay informed about new trends in arts and athletics education.

Other Duties:

  • Assist with bus duty as needed to ensure student safety.
  • Maintain a positive, supportive classroom environment where students feel safe to explore creativity and movement.

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Strong background in arts education, movement, and physical education.
  • Passion for working with young children and fostering creativity.
  • Ability to plan and execute culturally relevant and inclusive lessons.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with fellow educators and staff.
  • Experience teaching early childhood students (Kindergarten and 1st grade).
  • Knowledge of various cultural traditions and celebrations, particularly related to Latinx heritage, Black History, and global awareness.
