Description: Highland Park High School is one of the top-rated secondary schools in Illinois. In addition to our tradition of academic excellence, we provide one of the most progressive and extensive arrays of student support services offered in any high school setting. The high school community is culturally and economically diverse which has consistently provided a rich environment for our interns to work with students, parents and staff. Our school psychology internship program has been in place for over 30 years and is highly regarded as one of the top training sites due to the emphasis on a student-centered intervention model.In addition to their primary supervisor, the interns at Highland Park will work collaboratively with a team composed of four psychologists. Interns will gain experience working with a diverse population of students in both general and special education. Within special education, the intern will be able to work with students who range from needing support for emotional regulation and behavior intervention, those who need a fully-modified academic curriculum, and those who are working on life skills. We work within a tiered intervention model designed to actively seek out and provide support to students in need. Our interns will also have the opportunity to work in the Drop In Center that serves all students.Positions Available: 3 Full-time School Psychology Internship positionsFull Time Salary: $17,000School Psychology Internship Goals

  • Provide a well-rounded experience which prepares them to enter the field with advanced skills and competencies in the clinical, assessment, and consultation domains.
  • Engage in a developmental supervision model that addresses growth in the core competency areas, as well as areas of special interest.
  • Learn how to work within a team problem-solving model, with an emphasis on flexibly serving student needs, while assessing the outcomes of interventions.
  • Assist in collecting data on student interventions to guide more effective strategies and improved outcomes.
  • Collaborate regularly with teachers, parents, administrators, support staff, and outside professionals to address student needs.
  • Administer a wide range of assessments including the full range of formal psycho-educational evaluations, functional assessments, and response to intervention paradigms.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the challenging conditions that impact student growth and learning and the requisite skills and strategies necessary to address those challenges.
  • Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of special education law.
  • Develop competencies in general education intervention models by working in the high school’s Drop-In Center, support groups, problem solving teams, and other related general education initiatives.
  • Attend professional development workshops and seminars.
