Students receive a comprehensive, evidence-based, college preparatory curriculum, individualized instruction, cutting-edge assistive technologies, and successful college placement, with an emphasis on metacognition and self-advocacy within a community based on Friends (Quaker) values.About you and the roleThe Middle School Dean of Students is responsible for issues relating to student life and student wellbeing in the Middle School, both on a division-wide and individual scale. As Middle School Dean of Students, you would handle disciplinary matters and carry forward programs related to student conduct. You would also be a vital member of the student support team, working with administration, faculty, students, and parents toward student growth, and you would work toward shaping a positive school climate for all students.Here’s what you’ll do:Oversee all policies regarding student behavior, meet with students regarding issues related to behavior and attendance; follow up with parents, teachers, advisors; determine and implement appropriate consequencesAs part of the Middle School administrative team, develop programs and policies to foster a positive school culture in and out of the classroomWork closely with the Middle School Director, Lower/Middle School Counselor, and Associate Head & Academic Dean to support students academicallyPartner with and advise faculty in supporting students’ social-emotional, behavioral, and academic needsOversee, organize, and chaperone student programming and events, during and after school hoursServe on the Middle School Admissions CommitteeSupport the School and its mission, maintaining a high degree of professionalism at all timesHold a 1-2 class teaching load depending on needQualifications:Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferredMinimum of 3 to 5 years previous teaching experience required; prior administrative experience preferredStrong affinity for students who learn differently and student advocacyHigh demonstrated emotional intelligence and the ability to be both a leader and collaboratorExcellent written and verbal communication skillsThe values of Friends education resonate with you.
